How Does One Become a Christian?

Becoming a Christian is a very simple thing to do, but what makes it difficult is the fact that trusting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior is a humbling experience. Allow us to break it down into four categories:

1.) We Are Sinners (Rom. 3:10, Rom. 3:23)

Quite frankly, there is no easy way to put it. We are all sinners, and in need of a Savior. We can agree that there is no one perfect on this planet, and because of that, we all would fall into this category called sin. Sin simply put, is disobedience to God's commands. for example, God commands us to not lie, to not cheat or steal. He commands the children of the world to honor their mother and father. He commands us to do certain things that we find in the Bible, and when we are in disobedience to that command, we are in direct violation, and are therefore guilty of being a sinner.

2.) The Sinners Punishment (Rom. 6:23, Luke 16:23, Rom. 5:12)

Because every single human on the planet has sinned before, and is truly not perfect, what happens next is the punishment. If a man/woman were to rob a bank and be caught by the law, they would face a trial to determine if they are guilty. Once they are proven guilty, they then face their punishment that has been deemed by the law. In God's law, all sinners are therefore punishable to death, and hell. We cannot escape death, it has passed upon all sinners, and once we die we will face hellfire for all eternity. Hell is not a metaphorical place, it is a literal place. There is no purgatory either that one can go to for a second chance. Once we die in our sins, we face the punishment for our sins, which is Hellfire.

3.) The Salvation Plan (Rom. 5:8, John 3:16-17, Matthew 28)

God saw that all humanity was hell bound, so in his grace and mercy towards us, he delivered the salvation plan that would set us all free of our punishment. He sent his begotten Son, Jesus Christ for the main purpose to be our replacement. While Jesus Christ was born sinless (unlike us) he was then able to be the perfect kinsmen redeemer for the entire human race. Jesus Christ was our scape goat. He died on the cross of Calvary, and shed his perfect innocent blood for us. He took all the sins of the world upon him. All the sins I have committed, and all the sins you have committed. Once he was put in the tomb, he rose from the dead on the third day of being in the tomb, and proved once and for all that the grave has no victory, and death has no sting.

4.) The Invitation (Rom. 10:9-13)

Now that Jesus Christ has done this for us, we can now have eternal life, escape Hellfire, and no longer be entitled as a sinner, but entitled as a Child of God! But here is the thing, this is where the humbling experience comes when becoming a Christian. In order to become a Christian, and have eternal life up in Heaven when we die someday, one must do the following according to Romans 10:9-13:

A.) We must Admit that we are truly sinners, that we are not perfect, and we have disobeyed God Almighty.

B.) We must Believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that he died on a cross to take away our sins, and that he rose from the dead three days later.

C.) We must Confess our sins to HIM, not to another person, or a priest, but to Jesus Christ. We must repent of what we have done, and asks Jesus Christ for forgiveness of our sins.

Based on Romans 10:9-13, God is promising that when we do this, we shall be saved. Sounds pretty simple right? As long as you are willing to Admit, Believe, and Confess then it is easy, and God promises that you shall be saved!

How Do I Ask Christ?

How we can ask Jesus Christ to be our Savior is by praying to him. Just like how we use our phones to communicate with others, we use prayer to talk to God. What we do, is ask Jesus Christ for forgiveness and give the acknowledgement that we believe in him. To the best of your knowledge on asking for forgiveness and letting God know you believe in his Son, you can right here and right now wherever you are, ask Jesus to be your Lord and Savior. If you are unsure on what to pray, below is a example prayer.

Example: Dear Lord, I believe your Son Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I believe Jesus, that you died for me, and rose from the dead. Based on the promise God makes in the Bible, I ask you Lord, to come into my heart, and forgive me of my sins. Wash my sins away, and make me whiter than snow. Help me to live for you, and to sin less from here on out. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Now What?

Based on your prayer of asking Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior, and based on what God promises, you are now 100% saved from your sins, from Hell, and are now a Child of God! So, what comes next? Now that you are saved, Jesus Christ gives us our first command as Christians which is to be baptized. We obviously do not want to disobey our Savior, so we should consider getting biblically baptized. Once we do that, we can focus on growing closer to God by living for him, studying the Word of God (Bible), and attending Church.

Commonly Asked Questions:

As a new Christian, what happens if I sin again?

Answer: Based on God's Word, the Bible says that nothing can separate you from the love of God (Rom. 8:38-39) God also says that nothing can pluck you out of the father's hands (John 10:28-30). So, to answer this question, you cannot lose your salvation. You are the Lord's for all eternity and nothing can take that.

What Should I do if I sin again?

Answer: God says in the Bible that you can go to him and asks for forgiveness. (1 John 1:9) We are not asking Jesus into our heart again when we do this. Remember we cannot lose our salvation. What we are doing is making the relationship right again. We will always have a relationship with God when we are saved, but sin can weaken that relationship. That doesn't mean we go to Hell if we are Christians with weak relationships with God, but what it does mean is as true Christians that Love the Lord truly, we need to make the relationship right by asking for forgiveness.

Share Your Good News!

One of the best parts when it comes to being a Child of God is that now you can share your faith with others. Now that you have trusted the Lord Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior, share it with everyone you know! Share what Jesus has done for you, and that they can have the same thing happen to them!

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
